Peter and Paul Fortress
Peter and Paul Fortress is one of the most outstanding historical and architectual landmarks in Saint-Petersburg, a fortification structure of the early 18th century. The history of the fortress is closely connected with the construction of the city on the banks of the Neva and with the development of the revolutionary movement in Russia. The fort served as a base for the city garrison and also as a prison for political prisoners. However, the main attraction of the fortress is the Peter and Paul Cathedral, which is the burial place of all Russian Emperors from Peter the Great to Nicholas II.
During the tour, besides visiting the Peter and Paul Cathedral and the former political prison, we'll have a walk around the fortress and we'll see the Mint, the Boat House, the monument to Peter the Great and the Neva gate, which is also called the Death gate.
This tour lasts about 1,5- 2 hours. We recommend you to visit the fortress during the city tour.
